Portobello Road has just become even more exciting (if that's possible). Hidden away in Portobello Green, the arcades under the Westway, is a former workshop turned boutique of designer Haizhen Wang.
The silk XL shirt in the shop window with its striking print draws me into the shop. Once I'm in I get such a warm welcome followed by a presentation of Haizen’s collection and I instantly want to buy every single piece.
The collection is highly innovative, contemporary and impeccably detailed. I find tailored jackets and dresses mixed with loosely cut shirts, and all in high-quality fabrics. On closer inspection clever details are revealed, such as the intricate use of pressed feathers or buckles and belts incorporated into the design in unusual ways and places.
It’s truly is a collection made for urban glamazons, to make you feel strong and beautiful. These artfully crafted pieces mix tough edgy fashion with delicate feminine touches.
Haizhen Wang graduated from Central Saint Martins, he then worked for Max Mara, Boudicca and All Saints before he established his own label. He is now at the cutting-edge of the new fashion guard and is definitely one to watch.
